Getting Started & Verification
Who can rent a KarRent vehicle?
To maintain our safety standards, we currently only accept valid Canadian Driver’s License holders. You must be at least 25 years old and possess a clean driving record.
How does the verification process work?
Since we are 100% contactless, verification happens digitally:
Book: Reserve your car on our website.
Verify: You will immediately receive an email with a link to our Verification Form.
Upload: Provide your License Number, Date of Birth, and clear photos of the front and back of your Canadian license.
Approval: Once approved, you’ll receive your access codes via SMS and email.
How long does it take to get verified?
We aim to verify all drivers within 15-30 min of document submission. We recommend completing your verification as soon as you book to ensure your access code is ready when you arrive at the vehicle.
Picking Up Your Vehicle
How do I find my car?
Exit the Williams Lake Airport terminal.
Head to the main parking lot directly outside.
Look for our designated “KarRent | Self Drive” or “Rental Cars” signage. Your confirmation email contains all the specific details you’ll need to identify your car.
How do I get the keys? (The Lockbox)
Once your ID is verified, we will send you a Pre-Trip One-Time Passcode (OTP) via SMS.
Locate the lockbox on the Self Check-In Kiosk, near the baggage carousel area.
Enter your OTP to open the box and retrieve the keys.
CRITICAL: You must close the lockbox lid securely after taking the keys.
Do I need to take photos of the car?
Yes. While optional, it is highly recommended for your protection. You will receive a link to our Pre-Trip Verification Form. Use this to upload photos of the fuel level, dashboard, and any existing exterior scratches or dents.
Note: If you do not document existing damage, you may be held liable for it at the end of your trip.
During Your Trip
What is the $300 Security Deposit?
A refundable damage deposit of $300 is processed before your trip begins. This is held to cover any incidental damages, cleaning fees, or fuel shortages. It is fully refunded after our team reviews your Post-Trip photos and confirms the car is in good condition.
What if I find the car is dirty or damaged?
If the previous renter left the car in poor condition, document it immediately via the Pre-Trip Verification Link before starting the engine. This ensures we hold the correct party responsible.
Is smoking or pet transport allowed?
To keep our fleet fresh for all users, smoking is strictly prohibited. Pets must be kept in an appropriate carrier. A cleaning fee of up to $250 may be deducted from your deposit for violations.
Ending Your Trip & Returns
How do I return the vehicle?
Return the car to the same location where you picked it up.
Turn off the engine and ensure all lights are off.

CRITICAL: Use your Post-Trip OTP (sent before your trip ends) to open the box, drop the keys, and securely close the lid.

Safety & Support
What should I do in case of an accident?
1. Safety First: If there is an emergency or injury, call 911 immediately.
2. Document: Take photos of any damage or the scene.
3. Notify Us: Email support@karrent.ca or use the website chat to report the incident.
Note: If a Member causes any damage to the vehicle or is deemed liable for an accident they are involved in, they will be responsible for a deductible of up to $1000. If the Member Agreement is broken during the time the damage was caused, the deductible is not applicable and the full amount of the damage to KarRent and third party (other car/property etc.) will be the Member’s responsibility and the user’s account may also be terminated.
Why was my verification "Invalid"?
Verifications are declined if the license is expired, not Canadian, or if the driver’s record shows significant violations. If your verification is marked “Invalid,” you will receive an automated notification and your reservation will be cancelled.
What if the car is dirty or snowy when I arrive?
Given the local climate in Williams Lake, unexpected snow and mud are common. As a contactless service, we cannot always guarantee a freshly washed exterior during active weather events. We apologize if the car is not in “showroom” condition on the outside. Every vehicle is equipped with winter tires and a snow brush to help you get on your way safely. We appreciate your understanding of the rugged nature of Northern BC driving!
